Thanks to a 36,800-seat stadium, UNLV struggles to get elite college football teams to visit the Silver State. Powerful programs aren't willing to take the financial hit required to play a road game in Vegas with limited seats.

That could soon change, if Chris Powell has his way. The president and general manager of Las Vegas Motor Speedway would like to see UNLV play a prominent opponent at the 142,000-seat racing complex.

Can you imagine the Fighting Irish or Michigan Wolverines playing in a NASCAR track?

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Powell hasn't yet spoken to UNLV officials about bringing games against USC, Notre Dame or BYU to the NASCAR track, but he's hoping to take athletic director Jim Livengood out to lunch.
