Alex Ovechkin joined a select group that includes Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby and Patrick Kane when he lifted the Capitals to the Stanley Cup championship.

Ovechkin became just the seventh player since the WHA merger in 1979 to be the first overall pick in the draft and then win a Stanley Cup for the franchise that selected him.

The Capitals drafted Ovechkin in 2004, but this year was the first time they reached the Stanley Cup Final with him. After losing the series opener to Vegas, the Capitals reeled off four consecutive wins to capture the title.

In addition to Lemieux, Crosby, Kane and now Ovechkin, the others in this exclusive club are Mike Modano, Vincent Lecavalier and Marc-Andre Fleury.
