Kids are all the same to Max Scherzer, even if they root for the opposing team. So when Scherzer met an 11-year-old fan in a Jacob deGrom shirt at the Mets' Citi Field, he was kind enough to toss a ball to the kid.
But then the kid threw the ball back to Scherzer. The two then engaged in a light catch.
Here's video from the boy's father, Joe La Rocca.

@Max_Scherzer thank you for having a catch with my son at tonight's game. Lifetime memory. This lifelong mets fan is now a lifetime Max fan!

@MatthewHokie @Bharper3407 Ill tell you this. As a lifelong Mets fan i am "supposed" to hate the nats. After this, no so much.

The Nationals won, 7-1, but little La Rocca probably did not mind the Mets' lose as much as usual. The guy who struck out 20 last week is apparently pretty sweet off the field, too.
