Jordy Nelson Emily Nelson

Jordy Nelson torn his ACL in the preseason. That meant a lot more quality time with his wife this fall. The couple is having success in their second stint together.

The first stint, which occurred in middle school, ended poorly, according to a recent Nelson segment on the Dan Le Batard Show (via CBS Sports):

Nelson: I have known my wife my whole life. We grew up together, went to kindergarten together all the way through and, yeah, her parents, we grew up three miles apart, which is not very far apart when you grew up out in the country in Kansas.

Le Batard: When did you become boyfriend and girlfriend?

Nelson: That would be end of freshman year of high school.

Le Batard: OK. I was under the impression she was your very first girlfriend, sixth grade.

Nelson: Where are you getting this information? … Well, yeah, we dated and she dumped me. Why I went back I don't know. I guess it's part of the story.

Le Batard: Were you trying to lie to us, Nelson??? She dumped you where -- give us the details of when and where.

Nelson: It was actually 7th grade. At the end of the school year, she had an incredible reason why, it was the end of the school year and summertime and apparently she didn't want to be around me. She didn't want to be tied down to one guy in seventh grade in the summer.

Poor Jordy seems like he was blindsided. Eighth grade must have been a tough year for him.

Luckily, things worked out. His wife, Emily (whose maiden name is Rothlisberger), reconnected with him at Riley County High School in Riley, Kansas.

Nelson also talked with Le Batard about his injury and recovery after missing this season, but Le Batard clearly savored the relationship portion of the interview. Give him credit, he got the answer he was looking for.
