Thomas Edward John was born May 22, 1943.

Although he is known for being the first pitcher to have the operation now referred to as Tommy John surgery, the lefthander from Indiana had a long and successful career with 288 MLB wins.

A sinkerball pitcher, John appeared in four All-Star Games and three World Series.

He played for the Indians, White Sox, Dodgers, Yankees, Angels and A's.
