Robert Kelly Slater was born February 11, 1972 in Florida, where he still resides.

Kelly is the greatest professional surfer ever to live, having dominated the sport since 1990. He has been crowned ASP World Tour Champion a record 11 times, including 5 consecutive titles in 1994–98. At 20 he is the youngest to win the honor, and at 39 he is the oldest.

In 2005, Slater became the first surfer ever to be awarded two perfect scores under the ASP two-wave scoring system, and then he did it again in 2013.
