Few people have a more diverse Rolodex than John Calipari. The Kentucky coach's connections extend well beyond basketball, and he is known to hobnob with celebrities like Jay-Z and Drake.
And apparently Coach Cal's reach extends into the political realm as well.
Calipari tweeted this week about a call he received from former president Bill Clinton. Clinton, a noted basketball fan, was phoning Calipari to apologize for not being able to attend Kentucky's matchup with Providence this week at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. You know you've made it when a former president calls you to apologize for skipping out on an event.
As it turns out, the two men are friends, and Clinton has visited Calipari at his office in Lexington. Calipari spoke last year at the Clinton Global Initiative conference.
Calipari tweeted that he and Clinton also discussed the Wildcats' season and Clinton said he'd like to make it to a game at Rupp Arena.
I got a great call at 3 o’clock on game day yesterday from @billclinton. We spoke for about 20 minutes.

He knows our team, he knows our ups and downs, and he knows where we’ve got to go. He really tried hard to make our game, which I appreciate

The 42nd president is known to attend games in New York, and he celebrated with Louisville after the Cardinals won the Big East tournament last season at Madison Square Garden.
