It was Christmas in June when Los Angeles Angels fans set the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing Santa hats.

Santa hats were distributed to the fans in Anaheim as they entered the ballpark for Wednesday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins.

The entire stadium burst with holiday joy as Angels fans celebrated the halfway mark to Christmas. The announced attendance was 35,671, so even if there were some Scrooges who didn't wear the hats, the Angels had no trouble shattering the previous record of 872.

A Guinness World Record adjudicator made the record official after the crowd wore the Santa hats for five minutes in the fifth inning.

By now Angels fans are veterans at setting world records: They set the records for most people wearing fleece blankets in 2010, most people wearing costume masks in 2011, the most people wearing cowboy hats in 2012, and the most people wearing wigs in 2013.

Keeping with the holiday theme, Anaheim Stadium was transformed into a Christmas wonderland. There were pictures with Santa Clause, falling “snow” and even a reindeer petting zoo behind home plate. The only thing missing was an exhibition game between the Angels and Santa's elves. Santa left one more gift under the Angels' tree Wednesday -- a 6-2 win over Twins.
