Shane Doan has a secret side not many people know about.

Despite a work ethic and diet that has kept him playing professional hockey for nearly two decades, the Phoenix Coyotes captain has a penchant for one particular candy. The people at Skittles found out about Doan's love for their rainbow of flavors and decided to send him some gifts. On top of a year's supply, the pièce de résistance was a Skittles-covered hockey stick.

The company said they wanted to reward the Coyotes forward for an outstanding season. He scored 22 goals and had 28 assists leading the team to the playoffs. Unfortunately they were cut down in the Conference Finals in five games to the buzz saw that is the L.A. Kings. Still, the performance was the deepest run in franchise history.

Doan is now part of a select group of athletes honored by Skittles both for their play and love of the brand. Derrick Rose and Lamar Odom both received vending machines full of the candy in years past. Dwight Howard was given a Skittles pinball machine.

Now that the public knows just how big a fan Doan is of the stuff, it will be interesting to see what they do. When Seahawks fans learned of Marshawn Lynch's Skittles love they began bombarding him with them after touchdown runs.

Let's hope Coyotes fans don't adopt the same celebration when Doan scores. It's one thing to taste the rainbow, but cleaning it off the ice would be a huge mess.
