Dog World Record In Balloon Popping

It's not quite Olympics time yet, but one world speed record has already fallen.

Twinkie, a Jack Russell Terrier from California, has set the standard for the Rio Games' participants to match. The adorable pup shattered the previous Guinness World Record for time needed for a dog to pop 100 balloons – set only 13 months earlier by Cally the Wonder Dog on 'Britain's Got Talent' – by more than 2.5 seconds. This video clip posted by the Guinness World Records' YouTube account shows the entire record-setting run of 39.08 seconds:

It turns out that balloon-popping success runs in the family. Twinkie's mother, Anastasia, was the world record holder in the same event from 2005 until Cally's performance in 2015. But Twinkie returned the distinction to the family with her phenomenal work this week.

American track and swimming competitors can only hope that this performance provides a bit of foreshadowing for the Games in August.
