The Chargers had the first overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, and they selected Eli Manning. Then they sent Manning to the Giants for a package that included North Carolina State quarterback Philip Rivers, the fourth overall pick. At the time, San Diego's quarterback was Drew Brees, and he continued as the starter for two more seasons before a shoulder injury led to his signing with New Orleans as a free agent.
"My relationship with Philip throughout that whole process was great," Brees told ThePostGame during a promotional appearance for Tempur-Pedic. "People tried to make that an awkward situation between us. Like, this guy was drafted to take your job, you guys are competing, you shouldn't like each other. But that's not the case."
