When Michelyn Johnson was a teenager, she skipped school to hang out with gang members. Now, she's helping Denver's youth get out of a lifestyle that she once lived.

As a program specialist for the Office of Family and Community Engagement at Denver Public Schools, Johnson has been changing the lives of Black students. She has shown them the future that they deserve and has provided them the tools to achieve their dreams. A big part of that effort is organizing tours of HBCUs, with many of the students stepping aboard an airplane for the first time to do so.

Johnson's work has been so inspiring that when Western Union learned about it, it arranged for Denver Nuggets stars Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray to surprise her with a special thank-you. Check out the full story in this video.
