Colin Kaepernick

You think this Colin Kaepernick protest flap is going away? You're dead wrong. Not only is the quarterback indefinitely committed to his pre-game protest of the national anthem, but his act has become such a staple of the 2016 season narrative that it will now be featured in the Madden video game experience.

A spokesperson for the game, speaking to For The Win, explained that the game's experience would soon include references to Kaepernick's protest of sitting while the anthem is played.

This is a regular thing recent editions of Madden have done, incorporating big news from around the league to keep the game up-to-date while closely mirroring the actual NFL season.

"Kaepernick's decision will be briefly mentioned in-game, reflecting our commitment to authenticity in Madden NFL 17," an EA Sports spokesperson told For The Win. "Overall, our new commentary will mainly center around on-field performance, as well as major news like trades, free agency signings and injuries."

It's clear from the statement that the video game franchise isn't cherry-picking Kaepernick's inflammatory decision just for the sake of building buzz. Instead, it's keeping in line with its commitment to build as realistic of an in-game experience as possible.

With all the attention it has received, Kaepernick's protest became a necessary addition.
