To back up his claim of being a cool dad, John Salley cites his daughter's choice if she finds herself in hot water.

"When my youngest one gets in any sort of trouble at school: 'Call my dad,'" Salley says. "You know they usually say, 'Call my mom.' No. 'Call my dad.' We switched roles. Mom is the disciplinarian."

So how often is the school calling?

"Fourteen, 15 and beginning of 16, there were a couple of calls," Salley says with a laugh about his daughter who is now 17. "It's calmed down."
