Turkish Soccer Head Kick

Meet Mehmet Degirmenci. He's a Turkish amateur soccer player formerly of the club Sanayispor. Today, he's unemployed, thanks to his decision to kick an opponent in the head.

The victim is Kayhan Karakas of Dallicaspor. Degirmenci receives a red card after jostling with Karakas moments before his vicious kick.

Karakas did not leave the game immediately. He eventually needed nine stitches, but the damage could have been worse.

"I continued playing for a while as I was playing in a team that we have established with great efforts," Karakas said, according to the Daily Mail. "I did not want to leave my friends alone.

"Thank God that kick came near my jaw. If it had hit me directly in the face, it could have broken my nose, made me blind or broken my neck."

According to Daily Sabah, Karakas also said he blacked out after the match and could have died. The Turkish publication said Degirmenci was escorted off the field by a trainer, "probably saving him from being lynched by fans of Dallicaspor."

Sanayispor subsequently cut Degirmenci and issued a public apology to Karakas and Dallicaspor.

That's one way to get coal in your stocking.
