Al Davis earned a degree in English at Syracuse, and like everything else he did, he had a unique style in putting his words together. Some will endure long after his passing on Saturday.

The Immortal Words Of Al Davis Slideshow

The greatness of the Raiders ...

They were the only team to appear in the Super Bowl in the 60's, 70's and 80's, and used that distinction to bill themselves as the Team of the Decades.

Commitment to excellence

Starting in 1965, the Raiders had 16 consecutive winning seasons.

The Raiders are global

There's a reason why the team's website is available in six languages.

The quarterback must go down and he must go down hard

According to Al, this was essential early in the game to set the tone.

You don't adjust ... You dominate

This is the shorter version of "We don't take what the defense gives us. We take whatever the hell we want."

Just win, baby

The NFL hadn't had a black head coach since 1925 when Davis hired Art Shell in 1980. Davis made Tom Flores the first Latino head coach in the NFL, and the result was two Super Bowl titles. Davis promoted Amy Trask, who began with the Raiders as an intern, to CEO, which made her the first woman to hold such a position with an NFL team.
