Defensive end Dwight Freeney had several teams interested in signing him last summer when he ultimately chose the Falcons, a decision that looks even better now that Atlanta has reached the Super Bowl.
The Falcons were 8-8 in 2015 and had missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season, but Freeney had a good feeling about joining the team. As the Houston Chronicle put it: "Freeney's mother told him to trust his heart."
Freeney has a close relationship with his mom, Joy, which we learned about two years ago. They took turns telling the story about the time when Dwight was 8 and wanted to surprise her by baking cookies while she was sleeping. Except he had never baked before and he forgot a key ingredient. As you can see in the video above, the mess in the kitchen ended up finding a special place in their hearts.
