D'Angelo Russell has a long way to go to repair his image. The 20-year-old Laker lost the trust of his teammates this past season when he posted a video to Snapchat of Nick Young admitting to cheating on fiancé Iggy Azalea.
Russell has been the punch line of memes for months. On Tuesday, he poked fun at himself.
In the Foot Locker ad, top prospect Ben Simmons asks rising NBA sophomores Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker and Russell for advice about life as a professional. "Got a phone?" Russell asks. He then throws it in the ocean and says, "Trust me."
Russell and Simmons played high school basketball together for Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, where they won back-to-back High School National Tournament championships.
Meanwhile, Young and Azalea announced their breakup on Sunday.
