Paul Molitor

September 16, 1996: Paul Molitor of the Twins gets his 3,000th MLB hit during a game in Kansas City, and it comes with a unique distinction.

Molitor is the 21st player in MLB history to reach 3,000 hits. But he is the first to have the 3,000th hit be a triple.

Earlier in the game, Molitor had singled for No. 2,999. Then in the fifth inning against Royals pitcher Jose Rosado, Molitor connected for his milestone moment.

He finished the 1996 season with a career-high 225 hits and a .341 batting average.

Molitor, the 1993 World Series MVP with Toronto, was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2004.
