Dikembe Mutombo was born on June 25, 1966.

Mutombo, a center out of Georgetown, was picked fourth overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 1991 NBA draft.

He made the All-Star team as a rookie when he averaged 16.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and three blocks a game. Mutombo was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year award for the 1994-95 season.

When Mutombo's contract expired, he signed with the Hawks. He spent four full seasons with Atlanta, winning two more Defensive Player of the Year awards. Halfway through his fourth year with the Hawks, Mutombo was traded to the 76ers, where he piled up yet another Defensive Player of the Year award.

Mutumbo bounced around a bit before landing his final stint with the Houston Rockets, playing behind Yao Ming.

Throughout his 18 memorable seasons in the NBA, Mutumbo made eight All-Star appearances and became well-known for his humanitarian efforts.

He was one of six members inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
