Stephen Gregory Yzerman was born May 9, 1965.

Drafted fourth overall in 1983, Yzerman became captain of the Detroit Red Wings by 1986. He led the Red Wings to three Stanley Cups championships in 24 years of service.

Yzerman retired as the sixth-leading scorer in NHL history in 2006. He began working with the Red Wings front office after he retired, but now serves as the Tampa Bay Lightning general manager.

Yzerman won an Olympic gold medal as a player in 2002 for Canada. Then he was a part of two more gold-medal efforts as a top executive for the Canadian team in 2010 and 2014.
