April 16, 2009: The new Yankee Stadium opens with a 10-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians.

New York had eagerly awaited the opening a new park more than 86 years after the original Yankee Stadium debuted. However, the Indians had other plans.

More than 50,000 fans came out to ring in the new park.

Luckily for the Yankees, they went on to win the 2009 World Series at home.
