April 20, 2008: Danica Patrick wins the Indy Japan 300, becoming the first woman to win an Indy Car race.

Patrick got her shot to win after the leaders had to pit for fuel toward the end of the race. She beat Helio Castroneves by more than five seconds to pick up the victory.

She joined Shirley Muldowney, who raced in the NHRA Top Fuel Championships, as the only women to win in top flight American motorsports.
