April 23, 2005: Alex Smith is drafted first overall by the San Francisco 49ers, and the next quarterback isn't selected until the Packers take Aaron Rodgers at No. 24.

Talk beforehand had the two quarterbacks vying for the No. 1 spot, and the 49ers chose Smith over Rodgers. Thus began the descending of Rodgers' name through the first round.

It all worked out fine for Rodgers, a two-time league MVP and a Super Bowl champion.
