Melvin Cornell Blount was born April 10, 1948.

Blount was a former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback and Hall of Famer who won four Super Bowls in his 14-year career. Blount recorded an interception in each season and led the league with 11 interceptions in 1975.

Blount's bruising playing style forced the NFL to change the rule on contact in pass coverage, many nicknaming it the Mel Blount Rule.

He also had an interception in multiple Super Bowls, including Super IX.

After his playing career, Blount served as the director of player relations for the NFL and established the Mel Blount Youth Home.
