Edward John Belfour was born April 21, 1965.
Belfour went undrafted after winning the NCAA championship with North Dakota, but managed to win 484 games as a goaltender. That ranks third all-time in NHL history.
The Blackhawks signed Belfour as a free agent, and in his first full NHL season of 1990-91, he won the Calder Trophy as the league's rookie of the year. He also won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goalie that season and in 1992-93.
He helped the Blackhawks reach the Stanley Cup Final in 1992 before losing to Mario Lemieux's Penguins.
Beflour played for 20 years with five different NHL teams. He took the Dallas Stars to the 1999 Stanley Cup victory, allowing nine goals in the six-game Final series against Buffalo.
Belfour was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
