April 1, 1996: The Oakland Athletics begin their season with a 9-6 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Cashman Field in Las Vegas.

The Athletics were the home team that day because the Oakland Coliseum, their usual home, was undergoing renovation. The team played its first 16 home games at Cashman Field.

The Tigers came to town during that span, and fans got to listen to one of the oddest calls in broadcaster George Kell's career.

The Athletics went 7-9 in those 16 games, so they certainly hoped what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas.
