Norman Allen Van Lier III was born April 1, 1947.

Van Lier played the majority of his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls, from 1971 to 1978. During his nine years with the team, Van Lier made three All-star teams and got three All-NBA Defensive First Team honors.

"Stormin' Norman," as the fans called him, was one of the most popular Bulls during the 1970s. He finished his career with 8,770 points and 5,217 assists. He went for 35 points and 10 assists in this game in the 1975 playoffs.

He served as a Bulls' analyst for 17 years after his playing career was over until his death in 2009.
