Jerry Rice is far and away the best receiver to ever play in the NFL, but with his physical abilities, Calvin Johnson could own a lot of receiving records by the time he hangs up his cleats. On this day, December 22, 2012, Johnson surpassed Rice's single-season yardage mark late in the Detroit Lions vs. the Atlanta Falcons game.

The old record was set by Rice in 1995 with 1,848, and Johnson, who ended the game with 11 receptions for 225 yards, finished the season with 1,964 yards, falling just short of the first-ever 2,000 yard receiving season.

Johnson is now the fastest receiver to 10,000 career yards, but a long ways off from Rice's career record of 22,895.
