It's here! It's here! The Jayson Werth Chia Pet is finally here!
A major league team is about to give away a living organism to the first 20,000 fans who show up to the Nationals' Aug. 5 game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. And just look at that beard on Werth.
Here's the pet's birth on June 23:

It just kept going:
A beard trimmer was even needed about two weeks ago:
A new preview video was unveiled today:

USA Today Sports also published a time-lapse video of the beard growth:
Thick beard, chest hair, wrap-around sunglasses -- it's all there. Werth is known for his eccentricities, although his reputation took a hit after spending five days in jail for reckless driving in late January. Nevertheless, the Nationals told The Washington Post back in February that the giveaway would follow up the 2014 Jayson Werth gnome promotional game.
The Nationals, who recently had Star Wars Day, do not exactly need wild promotions to get fans in the seats. The team's 54-50 record puts it just one game behind the NL East-leading Mets (side note: is this real life, Mets fans?).
Still, 20,000 chia pets are sure to put some energy into Nationals Stadium on Wednesday evening.
