Dane Thompson, a recent college graduate who works as the general manager of a restaurant and bar in Cedar Falls, Iowa, can add another line to his resume: Designer of Tiger Woods' shoes.

The 23-year-old Thompson entered a contest several months ago sponsored by Nike that allowed fans to submit a custom design for shoe that would be worn by Tiger Woods. Inspired by the Winter Olympics and the Ryder Cup, Thompson submitted a red, white and blue design.

"When I saw the contest and that it was for Tiger Woods, I knew I had to come up with something fitting," Thompson, a lifelong golfer, told GolfChannel.com in an email. "The patriotic theme kind of hit home when thinking about specific events affecting Tiger coming up in 2014. The shoe itself didn't take to long to design once I had the idea. It was just making sure the colors and features fit together."

Thompson's creation won, and golf's most famous star donned the kicks on the course at the Honda Classic this week.

Woods, who shot a 1-over-par 71 in the first round of the tournament, will wear the shoes throughout the spring. He even sent Thompson, who manages The Other Place in Cedar Falls, a pair of signed kicks as a token of his appreciation:
