Never much known for his forays into fashion, Lionel Messi donned a suit on Monday that won't soon be forgotten.
The 25-year-old Argentine soccer star rocked a Dolce & Gabanna polka dot number to the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Zurich on Monday, where he picked up an unprecedented fourth consecutive World Player of the Year award.
Dolce & Gabanna has been Messi's designer of choice since he signed a deal with D&G several years ago.
"I have always had a preference for their sartorial style and I always loved the sophisticated image they project," Messi said at the time.
The suit received a decidedly mixed reaction on Twitter, with some people joking that each of the dots on Messi's suit symbolized a goal (he tallied a record 91 goals in 69 games in 2012).
This is the second year that Messi has gotten creative with his outfit for the award ceremony. Last year he wore this velvet jacket.
People will certainly say nasty things about Messi's jackets. But if you're clearly the best player in the world and you just broke a record that many thought was untouchable, you probably deserve a little more creative license in your fashion choices than the rest of us.
