It was the selfie heard 'round the world. When the 2013 world champion Boston Red Sox visited the White House on April 1, designated hitter David Ortiz took a selfie with Barack Obama.

For a few minutes, Ortiz's picture with the world's most powerful man was cool. When Samsung Mobile US tweeted the same picture seven minutes after Ortiz, he lost approval.

In fact, Ortiz may the last White House visitor to take a selfie with the president. Saturday Night Live mocked the selfie.

For more than two months, Ortiz suspended his selfie use on Twitter. On Sunday morning, Ortiz broke the dry spell with a Father's Day tribute to his dad, Enrique. The selfie comes from the Fenway Park dugout, although judging by Enrique's warm clothing, it may not have been taken Sunday.

The caption translates to: "Happy Father's Day....thank God for blessing me with this old man of a father....I love you papa."

Ortiz kept the positive selfie energy going into the night. Despite losing 3-2 to the Indians in 11 innings (Ortiz went 1-for-5 with an RBI single), Big Papi returned to Twitter in the evening with a selfie.

The selife appears to have been taken at The David Ortiz Children's Fund Gala at the Mandarin Oriental in Boston. According to bostonusa.com, "proceeds from the festive fundraiser will benefit the David Ortiz Children's Fund, in partnership with MassGeneral Hospital for Children and the World Pediatric Project, which provides critical pediatric healthcare to children in New England and the Dominican Republic."

It appears Ortiz did not come to the gala alone. Teammates Johnny Gomes, Jon Lester, David Ross, Koji Uehara and Jake Peavy are among those in the photo. The group caps off Ortiz's return to the selfie world.

Big Papi is batting .249 with 15 home runs and 42 RBI this season. The Red Sox host the Twins on Monday night.
