In Sports Illustrated reporter George Dohrmann's book on AAU basketball, "Play Their Hearts Out," a 10-year-old Peyton Siva is driven to tears after his team is ruthlessly blown out in a game. Fast-forward 12 years, and Siva is a national champion and NBA draft pick.

The 6-foot former Louisville point guard was selected No. 56 overall by the Detroit Pistons. He fought adversity on the court and off. (His father struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, and a 13-year-old Peyton once talked him down from committing suicide). Siva might have to prove himself once again, since the Pistons reportedly may ask him to start his career overseas.
