What happens when you put the world's best athletes in one place for one night?

Some laughs, some tears, but above all, some pretty incredible moments.

With the 2013 ESPYs set to take place in Los Angeles on Wednesday, we took a look back at the award show's illustrious history.

The Most Memorable ESPYs Moments Slideshow

Justin Timberlake's Musical Number, 2008

JT wows the crowd with a spectacular song and dance routine called "Why I Love Sports." Greg Oden, the first overall pick in the previous summer's NBA draft, accompanies Timberlake on the piano.

Will Ferrell As "Jeff Vuvuzela," 2010

Shortly after the bizarre instrument dominates discussion of the World Cup in South Africa, the vuvzela's "inventor" discusses his prize creation with host Seth Meyers. Ferrell is laugh-out-loud funny in this short appearance.

Lindsey Vonn Tebows, 2012

Rather than announcing Tim Tebow's name after the quarterback wins the award for "Best Moment," Vonn does the ever-popular gesture. There are rumors of a romance between the skiier and the NFLer, but as it turns out, Vonn had her sights set on another controversial athlete.

LeBron James Dances, 2007

Fresh off of his first Finals appearance, in which his Cavaliers get swept by the Spurs, King James co-hosts the ESPYs and gets down to a rendition of Bobby Brown's classic, "My Prerogative."

The outspoken closer rocks a spandex tuxedo on the red carpet. The combination of the outfit and Wilson's ridiculous beard make for an unforgettable image.

Jamie Foxx Serenades Serena, 2003 & 2004

In each of his two stints as host, Foxx perform a raunchy and hilarious tribute to Williams. They were called "Can I Be Your Tennis Ball?" and "Can I Be Your Tennis Ball? Part II."

Pat Summitt Receives Courage Award, 2012

Really, all of the Arthur Ashe Courage Awards belong here. Always one of the most emotional parts of the night, the award has gone to influential sports figures like Jim Valvano (1993), Billie Jean King (1999), Tommie Smith and John Carlos (2008) and Robin Roberts (2013). Summitt, who had recently announced that she was battling Alzheimer's, was introduced by another Tennessee sporting legend, Peyton Manning.

Gronkowski Brothers Wheelbarrow Race, 2012

During the height of the so-called "Summer of Gronk," the fun-loving Patriots tight end and his brothers make quite the entrance on the red carpet.

Will Ferrell As Tiger Woods, 2008

The comedian accepts Woods' award for Best Male Athlete ... as Tiger Woods

Serena Williams Performs With Destiny's Child

The tennis superstar joined the popular R&B group onstage for a performance of "Lose My Breath."

Jim Valvano's Speech, 1993

The former N.C. State coach's "Don't give up, don't ever give" speech, which he delivered less than two months before he died, is perhaps the most touching moment in ESPYs history. Valvano's powerful speech can be seen here.
