As the country mourns the victims of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, sports teams found unique ways over the weekend to pay tribute.

New York Giants

Players from the Giants wore decals on the back of their helmets with the initials S.H.E.S., for Sandy Hook Elementary School. New York Jets players will wear similar decals on Monday night when they play the Tennessee Titans.

 

Kevin Durant

The Thunder star wrote "Newtown, CT" on the sneakers he wore for Oklahoma City's game Friday against the Sacramento Kings.

 

NFL

Every NFL team had a moment of silence before its game on Sunday.

 

Miami Heat

The Heat had a moment of silence before the game Saturday against the Washington Wizards where several players stood with their children. Dwyane Wade and LeBron James also honored the shooting victims with messages on their shoes.

 

Aston Villa

Several Premier League teams, including Christian Benteke and his Aston Villa teammates, wore black armbands in honor of the victims of the shooting. Queens Park Rangers, Fulham and Liverpool also donned the armbands

 

J.J. Watt

Watt honored the victims by writing "Newtown, CT" on his glove before the Houston Texans' game against the Indianapolis Colts.

 

Victor Cruz

The Giants receiver found out over the weekend that he was the favorite player of one of the victims of the shooting, 6-year-old Jack Pinto. So Cruz honored Pinto by writing Pinto's name and a special message for the boy on the shoes he wore for the Giants matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

 

Charles Tillman

Tillman wrote "NEWTOWN" on his towel as well as his armbands for the Chicago Bears game against the Green Bay Packers.

 

New England Patriots

For their game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Patriots wore decals that read "Town of Newtown" and had a black ribbon.
