The New York Yankees are no longer the highest-paid team in North American sports. Despite paying their players an average salary of $6.2 million, they have been surpassed by the Los Angeles Lakers, whose players make an average of $6.3 million.
And neither of those teams are the highest-paid worldwide.
Barcelona once again tops the list, paying an average salary of $8.7 million per player, or 40.3 percent more than the average salary on the Yankees.
The list includes teams representing six different professional sports leagues, and five different countries (all data via SportingIntelligence.com).
