Steve Nash's already complicated divorce proceedings just got a little more interesting.

For various legal and cultural reasons, the split of the future Hall of Famer and his ex-wife, Alejandra Amarilla Menrath has generated a lot of publicity.

And a recent move by Menrath has pushed the case back into the spotlight. TMZ is reporting that Menrath has hired the law firm of NFL referee Ed Hochuli to represent her in the child custody hearings. Hochuli, whose sterling reputation and perfectly sculpted upper body have landed him on the cover of Sports Illustrated and made him perhaps the most recognizable NFL referee, is also an attorney at the Phoenix law firm Jones, Skelton & Hochuli, P.L.C.

Nash and Menrath divorced in 2011 and are trying to determine custody for where their kids should live. While TMZ reports that Hochuli is not personally handling the case, it is interesting to note that the 62-year-old zebra is also a powerful attorney.

Hochuli has discussed his law background and how it compares to his other job as a professional referee.

"I'm a trial lawyer by trade," he told USA Today. "A trial is nothing, pressure-wise, compared to the NFL. … I have that long (he snaps his fingers) to make a decision with a million people watching and second-guessing (by video) in slow-motion. You've got to be right or wrong. I love the satisfaction when you are right — and the agony when you are wrong."

Hochuli will be working tonight's game between the Seahawks and the Saints.

Nash has missed nearly a month with a back injury.
