Ryan Lochte, the swimmer-turned-celebrity, may be a victim to his own appeal.

The three-time Olympian was in Florida recently when he came across an extremely enthusiastic fan. The teenage girl ran at Lochte and the 29-year-old caught her, but the weight of the embrace caused Lochte to fall over. Lochte hit his knee on the curb, tearing his MCL and spraining his ACL.

"As a result of a freak injury caused by an unexpected fan encounter, Ryan has suffered a torn MCL and an ACL sprain and will be taking a break from training and competition," Lochte's publicist said in a statement. "His medical team expects him to make a full and speedy recovery and Ryan thanks everyone for their well wishes."

Lochte won two gold medals at the London Olympics, giving him a total of five in his career. He recently competed at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, where he won two gold medals.

The girl who gave Lochte the hug was unharmed.
