While paddle boarding in Lake Michigan this week, former Chicago Cubs ace Kerry Wood came across a man's body floating in the water.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Wood called 9-1-1 immediately after seeing the body. Detectives noticed an identification tag on the 40-year-old man's wrist indicating he was reported missing by a nursing home after being released by a hospital one week ago.
Wood, 40, retired last year after spending much of his 13-year career in Chicago. He still lives in Chicago and worked for the Cubs as an instructor at spring training.
When reached by the Tribune, Wood's wife Sarah said the family had no comment.
