Note to future U.S. Open sites: When looking for somewhere to store your extra alcohol, a college campus might not be the best idea.

The Merion Golf Club learned that lesson the hard way this week, when $10,000 worth of extra liquor from the U.S. Open was stolen from the campus of Haverford College.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer , thieves stole the alcohol from the tournament's Trophy Club tent, an exclusive on-site, air-conditioned pavilion with live U.S. Open coverage located at Haverford College, approximately 400 yards from the clubhouse parking area and the 18th hole at Merion Golf Club."

The police blotter did not specify exactly what sort of alcohol was stolen. Beer, wine and mixed drinks were available at the tent during the U.S. Open.
