Manti Te'o cannot catch a break.
Even before he was drafted, NFL players said he would be teased because of his fake girlfriend fiasco. Immediately after he was selected by the San Diego Chargers, a new teammate agreed that he would be the butt of some jokes. And a local newspaper took the first swipe with this mocking cartoon.
As embarrassing as the Lennay Kekua incident was for Te'o, there is no evidence that he knew he was getting scammed, and he never meant to hurt or wrong anyone.
Still, the hits keep coming.
The most recent blow came in the form of a jab from Maxim in its annual Maxim 100, a list of the world's sexiest women and hottest celebrities. At No. 69, ahead of 31 women, was Te'o's fake girlfriend, Lennay Kekua. For Kekua's photo, Maxim used an image of a bikini on an invisible woman.
"After Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend hoax of 2012, we think it might be nice to have an invisible girl of our own to love. Why not? She's got a ton of great qualities, including looking awesome in a bikini. "
For his sake, hopefully Te'o can put this entire mess behind him with a strong rookie year in San Diego.
