One day after it was announced that Robinson Cano had fired mega agent Scott Boras in favor of rapper and burgeoning sports agent Jay-Z, reports indicate that another New York superstar has jumped aboard Jay-Z's new sports venture.
ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed that New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz will be a part of the Roc Nation/Creative Artists Agency (CAA) sports group. While the announcement is not official, Cruz has already hired CAA agent Tom Condon.
It appears this Cruz-Roc Nation partnership has been brewing for a while. Cruz has attended several Jay-Z events over the past year, and he even began incorporating Jay-Z's famous "Roc" hand sign in his touchdown celebrations.
Asked after a game last year whether he would be working with Jay-Z, Cruz couldn't divulge much.
"I'd rather keep that under wraps," Cruz said. "I don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet."
As Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN points out, this signing could be good news for Giants fans. While Cruz is currently a free agent, Jay-Z and Roc Nation will likely want to keep him in New York, where he is extremely marketable and a fan favorite.
