With Oscar Pistorius in jail on charges of murdering his girlfriend, advertisements bearing his image throughout South Africa and online have quickly been taken down.

Pistorius, the South African double amputee who qualified for the London Olympics, inspired people across the world and was a popular brand ambassador. He had deals with Nike, Oakley, the British telecommunications firm BT and French designer Thierry Mugler.

On Thursday, hours after Pistorius was taken to jail, billboards across South Africa with Pistorius' image were removed.

One especially unfortunate Nike advertisement was removed from Pistorius' website. The ad, which can be seen below, shows Pistorius running out of the starting blocks. It reads: "I am the bullet in the chamber."
