Of all the accolades bestowed upon Robert Griffin III in the past year, which include a pose named after him and his own superhero, a new honor might be the greatest.

When the son of die-hard Redskins fan Emanuel Vega and lifelong Cowboys fan Marissa Pena is born sometime in April, he will be named Robert Griffin Vega. That's right, RGV.

Around the time the Redskins squared off against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, Vega and Pena were having trouble thinking of a name for their boy. This was also the first time that the teams had squared off during their relationship, so Vega proposed a wager: The winner gets to name the child.

A bold bet, to be sure, but one that attests to the extreme fandom of Vega and Pena. Before the game, the two selected their names: Robert Griffin Vega and Miles Austin Vega.

Then during the actual game -- a 38-31 win for Washington in Dallas -- Vega says the nerves got to him.

“I was second-guessing the whole time, like, 'What am I thinking?'” Vega told Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. "If she’s gonna name him after a Cowboys player, there’s no doubt he would be a Cowboys fan. My son, as a Cowboys fan? I might have to disown him."

But thanks to a solid game from Griffin -- the rookie went 19-for-27 for 304 yards and four touchdowns -- the baby will be named after him. And perhaps the best part, for Vega at least, is that his wife isn't even that mad. Her family has taken to the name, plus it's hard to argue with Griffin's success.

“I mean, it’s all fair, in love and war," Pena told Steinberg.

Vega said they'd had bets before, and the loser would have to wear the sweatshirt of the other team, but none of them compared to this.

"It was just insane that they won," Vega said. "That was even bigger than the division title.”
