Anyone who has followed Jay Cutler's career knows he isn't one for theatrics. The nonchalant quarterback is about as cool as they come.

So it is fitting, if not necessarily surprising, to hear about how he and his fiancee, former reality star Kristin Cavallari, finally decided to tie the knot.

After the couple got engaged in April 2011, Cutler called it off that summer. But a few months later, the marriage was back on. In an interview that will air as part of an E! special on March 10, Cavallari explained how it all went down.

She was leaving the airport in Chicago in the fall of 2011 when the idea of a second engagement was broached.

"Somehow it came up, like, 'Oh, shall we get married?'" Cavallari said. "We're like, 'Yeah, OK.'"

The couple already had wedding jewelry from their first engagement, so they saved that expense. But with Cutler in Chicago and Cavallari in California, how could he get her the ring? Through the mail, of course.

"...[H]e sent my ring in the mail," Cavallari said. "So I actually had my ring sitting at home for a couple of weeks before I put it on."

Cavallari says the couple does not yet have a date for their wedding.
