Before he could even reach the exit of the store, a shoplifter at a St. Louis-area supermarket found his plan foiled.

That's because Jesse Finney, a former MMA fighter, had picked the perfect time to walk in.

Finney was strolling into a Schnucks supermarket in Crestwood, Mo., when he saw a man arguing with a female employee. The man quickly broke away and headed for the exit. Thinking fast, Finney tackled the thief before he could reach the doors and pinned him to the ground.

Finney said the man had seven bottles of vodka under his coat, and two of them broke upon impact.

"He was still trying to fight me saying some choice words," Finney told Fox 2 in St. Louis. "He wasn’t getting up. I can promise you that."

Store employees called the police while Finney held the suspect on the ground.
