Since his infamous ban from baseball in 1989, Pete Rose has gone to extreme lengths to hold onto his celebrity. He wrote a book, moved to Las Vegas and even appeared in WWE's WrestleMania dressed as the San Diego Chicken.
Now, Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader is taking his publicity drive to another level. Entertainment Weekly reported Tuesday that Rose has signed on for a TLC reality show. The show will provide a revealing look at the daily lives of Rose and his fiancee, Kiana Kim, a model who posed for Playboy in 2010.
According to Rose, this reality show is unique in that it projects, well, reality.
"It’s not going to be classless — like it seems like a lot of reality shows aren’t really reality," Rose said. "But our reality show is going to be funny, entertaining, and real."
The show includes events such as Rose's trip with his family to the Baseball Hall of Fame and Kim's breast reduction surgery. It also details the couple's attempts to unite their two families (Rose has four adult children, Kim has two young kids).
"We’re not a traditional family," Kim said. "We are a total modern-day family, mixing the cultures, the ages, the different backgrounds together. I didn’t even know who Pete Rose was when I first met him. It’s kind of a crazy story, but at the core of every family is love and it’s what TLC wants to show."
At least Rose can take solace in knowing this: no matter how bad the show is, it can't get any worse than his last appearance on "reality" TV.
