This week the people of the great state of New York have sent a message.

Despite a bumpy ride the last few weeks, Big Apple fans still love Linsanity.

ESPN's New York-based site has been running an online bracket style poll to decide who is the most beloved athlete in New York, the results have been...Linteresting.

Knicks guard Jeremy Lin is matched up in a bracket against Yankees captain Derek Jeter. When you check out the tale of the tape, you'll see just how much the undrafted basketball player from Harvard has resonated with those who voted.

Jeter's career highlights include his long-time title of team captain, five World Series championships, Yankees career hits record, AL Rookie of the Year (1996), All-Star MVP (2000), World Series MVP (2000), 12 All-Star appearances and the first player to get 3,000 hits while wearing pinstripes.

Aside from becoming a Linspiration, Jeremy has played 32 games for the Knicks this season, averaging 19.3 points, 8.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.13 steals over his last 23 games before Wednesday. Lin also became the first NBA player to record at least 20 points and seven assists in each of his first five NBA starts since Elias began charting stats in 1970.

Jeremy Lin has generated 74 percent of the semifinal round vote, to Derek Jeter's 26 percent. Not exactly a neck-and-neck race with over 50,000 votes counted as of early Thursday morning. Voting ends today with Lin projected to go against Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, who's crushing Giants QB Eli Manning in his bracket.

A champion will be crowned on March 26.
