Bored with the 2012 Presidential race?

"MEEOOOOW!"

Political junkies should consider taking a look at the Palmetto State for an electrifying candidate.

To be sure, David Bennett wasn't Urban Meyer on the sidelines, but he'd likely turn the cats and dogs on Washington bureaucrats. The former Costal Carolina head coach, best known for a bizarre news conference last year is considering a run for South Carolina's new 7th Congressional District seat. WPDE-TV reports Bennett says he's been urged to run for the seat that's only been around since 2010.

After initially declining interest three times, Bennett says he recently had a change of heart thanks to a conversation with his family.

"Our son Jeb said, 'Daddy, what if the timing of this is God's plan and this is what you're supposed to do?' And I said, 'Well, boy, I don't know, but we're gonna continue to pray about this and see where it leads us,'" Bennett said.

Bennett's infamous press conference before Costal Carolina's game against Catawba College last September featured an oddball rant about cats and dogs that went viral. The video has been viewed over 1.3 million times.

A perceived man of integrity and character, Bennett is also a deeply religious man.

"The number one thing is taking care of our children in our schools, getting jobs, more jobs for our people. We're a very unemployed area, so there are a lot of issues that need to be addressed," Bennett said.

Bennett racked up an impressive 63-39 record during his nine full seasons as coach of the Chanticleers. Since being fired after the football season, Bennett has spent his time as a volunteer golf coach for his son's high school team and spends time public speaking.

He has never run for office before, and has to decide his political future fast. The deadline to file for the race is March 30. Nine Republicans, along with five Democrats are already candidates.

Something tells me CNN, Fox News and MSNBC would suddenly get very excited about South Carolina politics should Bennett throw his name into the ring.
